- Jeric, SG registered social worker

HowAreYou cards have been an useful tool to facilitate the process of self expression and create understanding. With the guidance from Cornelia and Yvonne, I am able to use the cards with my participants and support them to gain more learning or self discovery. Both of them are always able to give more insights and ideas on how to integrate or use the cards for my desired outcome.

In the past, when there was conflict or bullying, I would struggle to manage it effectively. Now, I am able to use the cards to facilitate the restorative approach. The cards made it easy for the parties involved to express their needs, emotions and thoughts. Beyond self expression, the cards also provide questions for the parties to clarify or reflect deeper and even to explore other possible actions or perspectives. Thus, allowing the parties to resolve their tension through understanding and build positive relationships.

- Jolene Lim, Programme Executive, Boy's Town Adventure Centre

I love how insightful and versatile the How Are You cards are in understanding yourself deeply, breaking through roadblocks, and exploring new areas for growth. They uncover what you’re truly feeling and why, what you want or don’t, and the thought patterns that may be keeping you stuck. When I attended Yvonne’s goal-setting workshop using these cards, it gave me a fresh perspective on what I appreciated about my current lifestyle and goals, while revealing areas I hadn’t considered working on before. I also really like their holistic approach in considering how the mind, body, and emotions are interconnected, with each offering interesting clues that, when pieced together, reveal a deeper understanding of what we are truly facing.

As a coach, I also see this card set as a powerful tool for guided yet independent reflection. It enables meaningful insights without requiring personal disclosure. This is a game changer, because it immediately gives the person on the receiving end a lot more psychological safety, which helps them be more receptive in considering new possibilities, even for difficult or sensitive topics. The cards also strike the right balance between structure and flexibility. With a suggested flow and wide range of prompts, there’s a good amount of guidance to provide direction while still allowing freedom in how the conversation unfolds.

They can be applied to a wide range of topics like relationships and career transitions, to making tough decisions, and becoming a better version of yourself. Beyond that, they can be used in different settings like personal reflections, coaching sessions, or group facilitation. Because of this, these cards have become an essential part of my toolkit for deep exploration and growth!

- Kristin Loo, Enneagram Facilitator and Self-Discovery Coach

I have used the HAY cards for myself and students during facilitation for school programmes. These cards are easy to use with clear instructions. The cards scaffolded the process of helping myself and others identify our thoughts, actions and emotions when we are unsure how to do so, it shaped a clear thought process as to how we can best approach various situations. For myself, I feel enlightened whenever I use the cards to shape my thoughts positively and identify the specific emotion I am feeling.

- Janis, Youth Facilitator

In my role, I often have development conversations with people, and one thing I’ve noticed is many struggle to put their thoughts and feelings into words. Sometimes, even as someone in people development, I find it tricky to ask the right questions that truly resonate. That’s where the HAY Cards have made a huge difference. These cards make difficult or complex conversations feel effortless and natural. The Emotion Cards give people a starting point—a vocabulary to express what people are feeling but might not know how to say. The way the questions are structured also helps guide people through our thoughts at our own pace, making reflection and self-awareness feel intuitive.

They’re great for coaching and training. They give me fresh ideas, a bank of insightful questions, and a way to help people open up in a way that feels safe and organic. Beyond that, I’ve also experienced their impact personally—the cards act like a coach in my pocket, nudging me to reflect and uncover insights I might have missed. I’d definitely recommend these cards to anyone—whether you’re in people development, leading a team, or simply looking for a meaningful way to check in with yourself.

- Sang Weiqing, Senior Associate Talent Enablement, SUTD

The How Are You Cards have been useful in helping me to reason with how I feel, how I think and my needs as a person. When I work on my needs, I can develop as an individual for myself, to be a better facilitator for every student I interact with. Even as a parent, I do feel overwhelmed at times. The HAY cards have been a useful tool to digest & verbalize what I feel, as well as how & why I feel this way. The awareness cues in each card are perfect to pickup body language, behaviors & recurring thought patterns. It helps me to better articulate why I act up in parenting.

As a friend & mentor for many years, Yvonne has been crucial in shaping & making critical decisions in my life. At crossroads of my life, she provided perspectives to help me make informed decisions.

Here's what our HAY community say

After attending Yvonne’s program, I got to know myself a lot more in terms of my strengths & weaknesses and discovered my desire of becoming a facilitator. Yvonne has made me realize that I have the strength to help people grow, and thus I am motivated to work harder and gain more experience so that I can also help others to be clearer on their goals, find their own answers and impact them in other aspects.

- Mok Zhuang Siew

The program was meant to teach us personal leadership. Having Yvonne as my trainer made the entire program very interesting and fun. Her personal anecdotes, experiential learning and unorthodox teaching methods helped me remember what is being taught during the program.

- Ng Xuan Min

I remember meeting Yvonne when I was at the age of 18. I didn’t only feel the acquired skills she professionally carried out for the activity but also her presence of genuineness, assurance and eye contact that brought about the relational connection between us. Thank you Yvonne “the impact you created on my life was astonishing, and aided me to where I am today”.

- Lau Hwei Gary

Under the mentorship of Yvonne, I feel like I have grown to understand and appreciate more of myself day after day. She has been so patient with me and it was amazing to have her to listen to me talk about the problems I have been facing. Within a period of three months, I have grown from someone who indulged in self-pity and very emotionally unstable to someone who is more relaxed, optimistic and more confident.

- Ng Jin Ru

Yvonne is one of the best trainers I met so far. Before attending her program, I was still lost on my identity and what are the things affecting me. After the program, I found myself to be more self-motivated in life. Now I feel more confident in the way I behave and think. Acceptance of self was also how the program impacted me.

- Poon Jun Yee

I was in a dark place and Yvonne asked me a question that led me to find a path out. I was facing depression and suicidal thoughts when I met Yvonne. The questions did not resolve the troubles I was facing, but it made me realize that I was not as helpless as I thought and that I could choose how to respond.
